Pigeon Proofing for Townsville Homes
The birds causing problems under Townsville solar panels are usually feral pigeons, an introduced species that's very at home around buildings. They look for sheltered, elevated spots to roost and nest, and the cavity under a solar array is exactly that.
Pigeon proofing means making that spot unavailable. On a solar roof, that's done with a mesh barrier around the edge of the array, so the gap underneath is closed off.
Why Pigeons Are Hard to Shift
- They tend to return to places they've roosted or nested before
- Shooing them away or clearing the mess doesn't remove the shelter
- As long as the gap is open, the roof stays attractive
How We Pigeon Proof a Solar Roof
Any birds or nesting are assessed first, and accessible debris is cleared where permitted. Then 304 stainless-steel mesh is cut to size, clipped on without drilling into the panels, and the corners are fixed together. Full service details.
Bird exclusion and nest-removal work is subject to applicable Queensland wildlife laws. Protected native wildlife and active breeding places may require specific management or approvals. Where necessary, work may be postponed or referred to an appropriately authorised wildlife professional.
Where We Work
We service homes and businesses across greater Townsville, including Burdell, Idalia, Kirwan, Annandale, Bushland Beach, Douglas, Kelso, Mount Louisa. See all service areas.
Humane, Physical Exclusion
We don't use poisons, traps or harmful methods. Mesh simply removes the space the pigeons were using. Ordinary mesh installation isn't a chemical pest treatment.
Pigeon proofing is carried out by the Cleanest Solar bird proofing team.

Common Questions
What happens to the pigeons after the panels are meshed?
With the gap closed off, they have to look for somewhere else. Mesh is never installed in a way that traps birds underneath. Any birds or nesting are assessed first.
Can you remove a nest from beneath my solar panels?
It depends on the bird species and whether the nest is an active breeding place. Queensland wildlife protections may apply, so the situation is assessed before any removal or exclusion work proceeds. Feral pigeons are an introduced species; native birds and their active breeding places can be protected. Where necessary, work may be postponed or referred to an appropriately authorised wildlife professional.
Can pigeons get back under the panels after bird proofing?
When it's properly fitted, the mesh physically blocks access to the gap around the protected array. We cut it to size, clip it on and fix the corners together, then check it before we finish. It's worth keeping an eye on any roof work over time, and if you ever notice birds getting under again, let us know.
How much does solar panel bird proofing cost?
Every job is quoted individually. The price depends mainly on the length of exposed panel perimeter, plus the panel layout, number of arrays, roof height, access and pitch, and how much nesting and clean-up there is. See what affects the price. Quotes are free and there's no obligation.
Can I just clear the nest out myself?
We don't recommend it. It means working on a roof around live solar equipment, handling droppings and nesting material, and the birds may be protected depending on species and nesting status. Clearing the nest also doesn't stop birds returning to the open gap.
