What Solar Panel Bird Proofing Is
Pigeons get under solar panels through the open gap between the panel edges and the roof. Bird proofing closes that gap with a mesh barrier fitted around the perimeter of the array. It's physical exclusion: no chemicals, no traps and no harm to the birds.

What a Typical Job Includes
- Inspection of the solar array and roof access
- Assessment of any birds or nesting present
- Clearing of accessible nesting material and debris, where permitted
- Cleaning and sanitisation of affected areas, where included
- Mesh cut to size and clipped around the panel perimeter, with no drilling into the panels
- Corners fixed together and accessible gaps secured
- Final check of the mesh, and a visual check of the panels while we're on the roof
Bird exclusion and nest-removal work is subject to applicable Queensland wildlife laws. Protected native wildlife and active breeding places may require specific management or approvals. Where necessary, work may be postponed or referred to an appropriately authorised wildlife professional.
Why Mesh, and Not Something Else?
Scare devices and spikes don't close the gap under an array, and clearing the nest on its own doesn't stop birds coming back. A barrier around the edge physically blocks access. Bird mesh vs bird spikes, explained.
What It Isn't
- It isn't electrical work. We provide a visual inspection only. Any electrical work needs a licensed electrician.
- It isn't a solar performance upgrade. Panel cleaning is a separate service.
- It isn't a promise you'll never see a pigeon again. It physically blocks access under the protected array when properly fitted.

Common Questions
How much does solar panel bird proofing cost?
Every job is quoted individually. The price depends mainly on the length of exposed panel perimeter, plus the panel layout, number of arrays, roof height, access and pitch, and how much nesting and clean-up there is. See what affects the price. Quotes are free and there's no obligation.
Will the mesh damage my solar panels?
The mesh is cut to size and secured with clips that are installed without drilling, in line with manufacturer guidelines. We don't do electrical work. If a job would ever need panels moved or the system disconnected, that requires a licensed electrician, and we'll tell you before anything is booked.
Can pigeons get back under the panels after bird proofing?
When it's properly fitted, the mesh physically blocks access to the gap around the protected array. We cut it to size, clip it on and fix the corners together, then check it before we finish. It's worth keeping an eye on any roof work over time, and if you ever notice birds getting under again, let us know.
What happens to the pigeons after the panels are meshed?
With the gap closed off, they have to look for somewhere else. Mesh is never installed in a way that traps birds underneath. Any birds or nesting are assessed first.
How long does bird proofing take?
It depends on the size and layout of the array, roof access and how much clean-up is needed. We'll give you a time estimate with your quote.
Will bird proofing improve my solar output?
Bird proofing isn't a performance upgrade. Its job is to stop birds getting under the panels. If the glass needs cleaning, Cleanest Solar can quote that separately.
Do you bird proof commercial buildings?
We bird proof solar arrays on homes and on commercial roofs. For commercial sites we inspect the array, access and safety requirements before quoting.
