The Material
We use 304 stainless-steel mesh with a black epoxy coating. Stainless steel is selected for outdoor durability, and the black epoxy finish sits in with dark panel frames so the job looks neat from the street.
Townsville roofs deal with strong sun, wet-season rain and, near the coast, salt air. That's why the material matters, and it's the mesh used on Cleanest Solar bird proofing jobs.
How It's Fitted
- Cut to size: mesh is cut to suit each section of your array.
- Clipped on, no drilling: it's secured with clips installed without drilling into the panels.
- Corners fixed together: where runs of mesh meet at the corners, they're fixed together so there's no open join.
The mesh runs around the edges of the array, closing the gap between the panel edges and the roof. It isn't fitted across the glass.
Measured to Your Array
Panels can be split across several roof faces, and older roofs may have an uneven gap underneath. We measure the exposed perimeter of your actual array and fit the mesh to suit.
What the Mesh Doesn't Do
It's a barrier against birds. It isn't designed to improve solar output and doesn't involve electrical work. If your panels need cleaning, that's a separate service.

Common Questions
Will the mesh rust?
We use 304 stainless-steel mesh with a black epoxy coating, selected for outdoor durability, including in coastal conditions. No outdoor material is completely maintenance-free, so it's worth checking it from time to time.
Will the mesh damage my solar panels?
The mesh is cut to size and secured with clips that are installed without drilling, in line with manufacturer guidelines. We don't do electrical work. If a job would ever need panels moved or the system disconnected, that requires a licensed electrician, and we'll tell you before anything is booked.
Can pigeons get back under the panels after bird proofing?
When it's properly fitted, the mesh physically blocks access to the gap around the protected array. We cut it to size, clip it on and fix the corners together, then check it before we finish. It's worth keeping an eye on any roof work over time, and if you ever notice birds getting under again, let us know.
Will bird proofing improve my solar output?
Bird proofing isn't a performance upgrade. Its job is to stop birds getting under the panels. If the glass needs cleaning, Cleanest Solar can quote that separately.
How much does solar panel bird proofing cost?
Every job is quoted individually. The price depends mainly on the length of exposed panel perimeter, plus the panel layout, number of arrays, roof height, access and pitch, and how much nesting and clean-up there is. See what affects the price. Quotes are free and there's no obligation.
